AVIÓN CANNABIS: THE LEGACY
Inspired by a true story.
In 1977, Jerry Wilson sat at the controls of a DC4 military transport plane. He stared down a long narrow air strip, located deep in the vast Guarija desert of Northern Colombia. At the end of the runway stood an obstacle, one massive Oak Tree. 40,000 lbs of Cannabis was on board, and his business partners watched from the scrub, ak-47s slung over their shoulders.
Heat waves rose from the clay and sweat beaded on his forehead. The Colombians made it clear, there was only one choice: fly the plane. He said to himself, as he had many times, “today is a good day to die.” He crossed his chest and thrust the plane forward.
Upon take off the right engine hit the Oak Tree, exploding immediately. He survived the crash landing but found himself in the notorious Santa Marta federal Prison. He was deemed by the national newspapers as “El Narcotrafficante Norteamericano Numero Dos.” Translation: he was in deep shit.
He escaped from prison on account of a friendly Judge and a handsome bribe. Jerry was the luckiest man I have ever known or known of.
This is one of his many harrowing adventures. Later he was acquitted in the trial of “The El Paso 10,” where he stood trial for then the largest Marijuana bust in U.S. history. He went on to fly over 100,000 lbs of Cannabis into the United States.
Through it all one thing remained unchanged: his love of Cannabis. He instilled his passion for cannabis in his children, who then instilled it in me, his grandson.
Grandpa Jerry’s stories and spirit are infused into every detail of this brand. Now, to ensure the legacy lives on, it is with a sense of deep purpose and gratitude that I present: Avio Supply Co..
